Virginia Tech's Center for the Arts will be named after an artist who donated $10 million toward its construction.

Officials announced the donation from P. Buckley Moss on Wednesday. The $100 million building's public grand opening will be held Nov. 1 on the Blacksburg campus.

Media outlets report Moss says she struggled with dyslexia as a child, yet a teacher noticed her artistic talent. She says her love for education and the arts prompted her to make the donation.

Virginia Tech's vice president for development Betsy Flanagan says Moss' gift brings the amount of private donations for the 125,000-square-foot center to more than $31 million.

The 80-year-old Moss is known for her depictions of rural life. A Waynesboro museum is dedicated to her work.
