N.C. considers special fee for electric, hybrid vehicles

There's a new proposal in the Tarheel State aimed at making up revenue from car owners who aren't paying as much in gas taxes.
North Carolina is considering raising fees for hybrid and electric car owners.
Many owners of alternative-fuel vehicles and some advocacy groups are protesting the proposal. They say it's the wrong approach to balancing energy independence with paying for infrastructure.
Lawmakers say taxing hybrid and electric vehicle owners will help make sure all drivers help with the costs of maintaining and constructing roads they all use.
