Connecticut will have company when the 2011 national champion Huskies sit out next year's NCAA tournament as punishment for poor academic scores.

The NCAA field won't include 10 schools cited for failing to meet the minimum Academic Progress Rate of 900. Toledo, Towson, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Cal-Riverside, Cal-Bakersfield, Jacksonville State, Mississippi Valley State and North Carolina-Wilmington were informed of the ban that could also eliminate the teams from conference tournament participation.

Each conference is allowed to make the determination of whether the teams can play in the postseason league tournament. The Big East announced Connecticut will not be involved in the conference tournament in March.

Connecticut and Toledo had hoped their self-imposed sanctions would be considered sufficient.

The NCAA requires each program to replace four hours of practice time with "academic activities."
