BRISTOL -

A different style of racing is on tap this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Global Rallycross is making its Bristol debut. This style of racing features what is called Super Cars - 600 horsepower cars that can go 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds. They can also complete 70-foot jumps.

Rallycross is popular in Europe but is gaining popularity in the United States. It has been featured in the X Games, and Saturday's event will be televised on ESPN.

The Rallycross competition is part of a Saturday doubleheader at Bristol.

At 4:30 p.m., Global Rallycross takes to the track and after competing in a series of elimination heat races, ten drivers will battle in a winner-take-all final to determine the Bristol's GRC champion.

Following GRC action, some of the biggest names in monster trucks will compete at BMS in the annual Thompson Metal Monster Truck Madness.

Bigfoot, War Wizard, Samson, Stone Crusher and more will race around the infield during two qualifying rounds and eliminations.

After a racing champion is crowned, the trucks return for everyone's favorite event - freestyle, where drivers perform stunts and moves.

This is the first time Rallycross and the Monster Trucks are sharing the stage.

"We have an audience between 15 and 25," Global Rallycross team owner Andreas Eriksson told News 5 WCYB.

"I think monster has between 5 and 15 and the rest, so I think it could be a really really good mix."
