News 5 WCYB’s cameras were rolling as drag racers John and Courtney force went toe-to-toe Saturday at the Bristol Dragway.
The father-daughter duo discussed their upcoming Father’s Day match-up. They will compete against each other Sunday in the first round of the Thunder Valley Nationals Funny Car eliminations.
"He's going to have a rough father's day," Courtney Force joked.
"The best father's day gift I can give him is beating him. He's taught me everything I know. That just means I listen."
Courtney Force posted a 4.161 time at 305.98 mph and followed that with a 4.129 time at 306.95 mph.
"Bottom line, we teach them to win," John Force said.
"I'm driven to win myself. We are going to go out there and we're going to give the fans what they bought that ticket for."
John Force, the 15-time world champion, was solid on Saturday. In the first session he posted a 4.170 time and then in the final session Force improved to 4.153 seconds at 306.33 mph.
Meanwhile, local favorite Greeneville native Allen Johnson secured the second qualifying position in the Pro Stock division. He is hoping to return to the finals against Mike Edwards.
In last year's finals Edwards nipped Johnson by a split second.
"Can't wait to get out there in the finals," Johnson told News 5 WCYB.
"Hopefully we will race Mike in the finals again."
Edwards topped qualifying Saturday in his bid for a fifth straight NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals victory.
Edwards took the top spot at Bristol Dragway with his Friday run of 6.632 seconds at a track-record 208.23 mph.
Spencer Massey led the Top Fuel lineup, and Del Worsham topped the Funny Car order.
