BRISTOL, Tenn. -

Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Truck Series race Wednesday night at Bristol Motor Speedway for his record 14th overall victory on the high-banked 0.533-mile oval.

The Sprint Cup driver took fresh tires with 16 laps to go, passed Ryan Blaney for the lead with six laps left and held off Timothy Peters in a race to the finish that ended with Peters crashing on the front-stretch.

"Timothy is a clean racer," Busch told News 5 WCYB.

"I figured I might get a little bump or bang here, but I didn't think I would get wrecked. Fortunately I was right. Anyway you can win them here at Bristol it's always good."

Busch broke a tie with Darrell Waltrip for the NASCAR track victory record. Busch has four victories at the track in the Truck Series, five in Sprint Cup and five in the Nationwide Series.

The victory was his third in eight Truck starts this season and pushed his career total to 33.

Blountville's Nate Monteith - driving for the start-up race team DDK Motorsports - started 30th but on the second lap he spun and finished 35th.

"Just my luck at Bristol," Monteith told News 5 WCYB.

"A lot of people wanted to see me run good. We'll be back."

Abingdon's Caleb Holman started the race 25th and climbed to a 17th place finish.
